BASIC ENGINE SYSTEMS
(Course length - 3 days)


Objective: After successful completion of this course, the Technician will be able to:
  • Understand system requirements for fuel, coolant and lube as they pertain to good engine performance.
  • Understand system diagnosis based on basic diagnostic procedures and system operation.
  • Be able to calculate and advise on consumption complaints pertaining to fuel and oil.
  • Calculate proper service intervals for the engines used in truck/marine applications.
  • Calculate horse power performance and requirements based on vehicle demands and operating conditions
  • Perform proper cooling system maintenance and adjustments to system based on engine and environmental conditions.
  • Understand the effects that one system may have on another in regards to performance and repair procedures.
  • Understand operation of the 2007 ACERT intake and exhaust systems ie. DPF, CGI, CRS and associated components.

Who should attend: This is a pre-requisite course for technicians taking engine specific courses. Topics covered on this course are referred to on other engine courses.

Description: The course criteria are intended to cover engine fluid requirements for all Caterpillar Truck Engines. Also covered is fuel, lube and coolant system operation.
